Sabah polls: Immediate expulsion for members contesting as independents, warns Gagasan Rakyat

KOTA KINABALU (Nov 15): Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) has issued a firm warning to its members, stating that anyone who chooses to contest the 2025 Sabah State Election as an independent candidate will be expelled from the party with immediate effect.

In a statement today, Gagasan Rakyat stressed that contesting under an independent ticket goes against the party’s stance and the collective decision of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), of which Gagasan Rakyat is a component party.

Gagasan Rakyat secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Razali Razi said the party will not tolerate actions that undermine party unity or contradict the agreed strategy for the coming election.

“Any individual who decides to contest as an independent candidate has no connection whatsoever with the party or its leadership, even if they are members of PGRS,” he said.

“Therefore, the party has decided to immediately terminate the membership of anyone who violates this directive.”

He added that discipline and solidarity are crucial as the state prepares for the 2025 election.

“We urge all supporters and party machinery to strengthen unity and remain fully focused on facing the 2025 Sabah State Election by ensuring the victory of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidates for the future and interests of the people of Sabah,” Mohamad Razali added.
