A woman in her 60s was killed, and her 80-year-old mother was injured after they were attacked by a family member at their home in Kampung Baru Bakai, Kuala Ketil, on Tuesday (16 December).
Police arrived at the scene around 7 pm after receiving a report and arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of stabbing his 65-year-old grandmother to death and slashing his 80-year-old great-grandmother in the neck, causing serious injuries.
The suspect was brought to a nearby police station by members of the public and was arrested.
Baling District Police Chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe said the suspect has been remanded for seven days starting Wednesday to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 307 for attempted murder.
Motive Under Investigation, Drug Use SuspectedInvestigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing.
The suspect’s 19-year-old sister said that her brother was believed to have been experiencing emotional disturbances and hallucinations before the incident, often talking to himself, though he had never harmed anyone.
At the same time, sources at the scene said the suspect is believed to be a drug user who may have attacked the victims after they refused to give him money.
However, police have not confirmed this.
