Senior citizen dies after being thrown out of 4WD in Putatan crash

PENAMPANG (Jan 15): A senior citizen was killed while three others escaped with minor injuries in a single-vehicle accident on Jalan Papar Lama, behind Lok Kawi camp, Putatan, here on Wednesday.

Penampang police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the 69-year-old man, who was the front passenger of the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle, was thrown out in the 6pm incident.

The driver and two other passengers, in their 30s and 40s, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by medical personnel.

“Based on the police investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle before it ended up in a ditch by the roadside,” said Sammy.

The victim’s body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a postmortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
