Apple’s new OLED MacBook Pro might be ahead of schedule, per rumor

Apple is widely expected to release a major overhaul of the MacBook Pro later this year or in early 2027. Among the many changes expected with this refresh is new OLED display technology.
A new rumor today indicates that Apple’s partner Samsung Display has kicked off mass production of the OLED screen destined for the new MacBook Pro ahead of schedule.
OLED touchscreen MacBook coming soonThe rumor comes from the account yeux1122 on Naver and should be treated with skepticism as this source doesn’t have the best track record. Still, the timeline roughly aligns with reports from more reliable sources such as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
According to today’s rumor, Samsung Display initially scheduled to begin production of this OLED display in Q2 2026. This suggests the company is ahead of schedule in manufacturing displays for Apple’s new MacBook Pro.
The rumor also corroborates earlier reporting that Apple will use the same tandem OLED display technology in the MacBook Pro as it does in the iPad Pro. The rumor suggests it will have the (translated from Korean) “best quality among all OLED laptops ever released.”
Beyond the OLED display, the refreshed MacBook Pros will include Apple’s M6 chip. They will also reportedly feature a thinner and lighter design than the current MacBook Pros. Bloomberg reported last year that the new MacBook Pro will also have a touchscreen, marking the first time Apple has ever released a touchscreen Mac.
Finally, the notch will reportedly be released with a new hole-punch design that uses a single cutout to house the FaceTime camera.
One important thing to remember is that Apple has one more update to the current MacBook Pro generation still to come. The company is expected to release new high-end M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models as soon as this month. The all-new M6 MacBook Pro lineup is set to follow later this year or in early 2027.
