Negeri Sembilan Govt in crisis as 14 BN assemblymen withdraw support from Menteri Besar

A POLITICAL crisis has intensified in Negeri Sembilan after all 14 state assemblymen from Barisan Nasional (BN) announced they had unanimously lost confidence in Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and were withdrawing support for the state government.
The assemblymen, all from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), made the declaration during a press conference at the party’s Negeri Sembilan headquarters on Monday, signalling a significant shift in the state’s political balance.
The move comes amid a broader institutional and constitutional dispute involving Negeri Sembilan’s traditional leadership system, prompting renewed calls within UMNO for urgent measures to contain the crisis.
Earlier, State UMNO liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias warned that the situation must not be allowed to deteriorate further and urged immediate steps to restore clarity and stability.
“For me, there must be immediate action to resolve this crisis, including possibly establishing a special reconciliation committee.
“The committee must consist of individuals or those with expertise in adat as well as the Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan 1959,” he said.
Jalaluddin, who is also a senior state executive councillor, said the proposed body should comprise credible and impartial figures with deep understanding of customary law, particularly the Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan 1959, to ensure a balanced resolution.
He stressed that such an initiative would not constitute interference in adat affairs but would instead provide guidance through appropriate constitutional mechanisms.
The unfolding dispute has drawn national attention, with concerns centred on the role of the Undang, or traditional chiefs, in decisions affecting the state’s royal institution. Jalaluddin described the situation as serious and in urgent need of resolution.
“It is for the good of all parties, and we do not want the public to make their own interpretations of what is happening due to a lack of explanation from the relevant authorities.
“I myself feel somewhat constrained in offering views, but as a senior EXCO member and UMNO Negeri Sembilan chairman, I believe this matter cannot be left unresolved,” he said.
In the meantime, former Menteri Besar Tan Sri Rais Yatim had called on Aminuddin to reconvene the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) to defuse tensions and restore order.
The crisis has intensified following reports that the Undang exercised their authority in matters involving Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, while the position of Mubarak Dohak has also come under dispute, further complicating the political and constitutional landscape.
