Fastest EV at Malaysia's biggest EV Track Day: Exotic Mods Tesla Model 3 Performance – 2:27.790

Over 100 EVs gathered at Sepang International Circuit for the SoyaCincau x Dongfeng Pop-Up EV Clinic: Track Edition 2026, but one car stood out from the rest.

The Exotic Mods Tesla Model 3 Performance driven by Ee Shedden set the fastest lap during the track session, showcasing just how capable EVs can be on a race track.

Here are the top three fastest EVs from the event:

Fastest EV: Exotic Mods Tesla Model 3 Performance – 2:27.790

The fastest lap of the event was set by Ee Shedden in the Exotic Mods Tesla Model 3 Performance, clocking an impressive 2:27.790 around the full Sepang Circuit.

What’s even more remarkable is that he improved significantly on his previous best lap of 2:34.344 recorded during our previous EV track day, shaving nearly 7 seconds off his previous record.

The car had already featured several track-focused upgrades including a GAB 6-pot forged brake system, EMP Track Version coilover suspension and EMP stainless steel braided brake hoses.

For 2026, the EV received a number of additional upgrades focused on weight reduction, chassis rigidity and suspension tuning. These include the following:

The Model 3 also switched from Nankang AR-1 tyres to Nankang CRS tyres, while the driver was secured with a Buddy Club 6-point racing harness belt.

In addition, the team removed approximately 60kg from the vehicle by taking out the rear seats and replacing the rear doors with lighter fibreglass panels.

To put the lap time into perspective, Shedden’s best lap time is just over a tenth of a second behind the Mitsubishi Evolution X listed in the Megalap Hall of Fame’s 4WD Semi Slick category, which posted a 2:27.672 lap time around Sepang.

Fastest Stock EV: Tesla Model 3 Performance – 2:32.423

The fastest stock EV of the day belonged to Firhat Mokhzani, who recorded an impressive 2:32.423 in his Tesla Model 3 Performance.

Apart from running performance-oriented tyres, Firhat shared that the vehicle remains largely stock.

Interestingly, Firhat recorded a top speed of 216.4km/h, surpassing speeds achieved by the two modified Tesla Model 3 Performance vehicles on this list.

The result demonstrates just how capable modern performance EVs have become straight from the factory, requiring very little modification to clock serious lap times at Sepang.

Third Fastest EV: Tesla Model 3 Performance – 2:38.200

Completing the top three was Ryan Woon in a Tesla Model 3 Performance with a best lap time of 2:38.200.

The car recorded a top speed of 204.9km/h while maintaining a strong overall lap time around the 5.543km circuit.

While retaining the stock powertrain, the 2021 EV featured a number of chassis, suspension and braking upgrades aimed at improving handling consistency and braking performance on track. The setup include:

This is only the beginning for performance EVs

What makes these results even more impressive is that all three fastest EVs were based on the Tesla Model 3 Performance, an efficient electric sedan that many owners use as their daily driver.

Shedden’s 2:27.790 lap is an indicator that EV performance is evolving rapidly, with enthusiasts continuing to push the limits through suspension, tyre, braking and weight reduction upgrades.

While EVs are often judged by range and charging speeds, the results from Sepang show they are becoming increasingly capable performance machines.

We can’t wait to see what EV owners can achieve at our next track day as they continue to refine their cars, improve their driving skills and push the limits even further.
