New 6km Teku-Pasai Siong-Kemuyang road hits 22.71% progress, completion by Sept 2027

SIBU, June 26: The construction of a 6.172-kilometre new road linking Jalan Teku, Pasai Siong and Jalan Kemuyang has reached 22.71 per cent physical progress and is expected to be fully completed by September 2027.

The project, which forms part of efforts to enhance connectivity in Sibu Division, is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time and support socio-economic development in surrounding areas once completed.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas conducted a site visit to the project as part of his working inspection of development projects in the division today.

He said the project reflects the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to strengthening road infrastructure to provide a safer and more efficient transportation network for the people.

“This project will not only enhance connectivity between areas, but also ease congestion, shorten travel time and open up more development opportunities for local communities,” he said in a statement shared on his social media today.

The project scope includes the construction of a new road built to JKR R3 standard, a 704-metre flyover, drainage systems, solar-powered LED street lighting, traffic signals, road signage and other road safety features.

“Once completed, the new link road is expected to significantly improve accessibility between Teku, Pasai Siong and Kemuyang, while supporting long-term economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents in the Sibu Division,” he added.

During the visit, Uggah was briefed by Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu engineer Ir Chieng Siong Ming on the latest progress before inspecting ongoing construction works on site.

He was accompanied by Deputy Minister for Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development permanent secretary Datu Chiew Chee Yau, as well as senior officials from JKR Sarawak.

Uggah also visited several sections of the construction site to ensure that works are being carried out according to schedule, comply with technical specifications, and adhere to required safety and quality standards. — DayakDaily
