RWMF may introduce senior citizen discounts from next year

KUCHING, June 26: Senior citizens could enjoy discounted tickets to the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) from next year, says Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said the organisers would consider the proposal following a suggestion raised by a reporter during a press conference held at Sarawak Cultural Village here today.

“That is a very good question. It opens our minds as organisers and also the ministry. I have to think about that. I think Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has got to think about that also,” he said.

He acknowledged that many senior citizens had supported the festival for decades and played a key role in making RWMF what it is today.

“Those who are in the veteran group, who have made Rainforest World Music Festival to be what it is today, because many of them must have been supporting this event 20 years ago, 30 years ago. They deserve to be given discounted rate,” he said.

While stressing that no decision had been made, Abdul Karim said he hoped the proposal could be taken into account for next year’s festival.

“So we have not looked into that, but Insya-Allah, from next year onward, we’ll definitely take that into account. Those who are of a certain age, probably 60 and above, can be given discounted rate,” he added.

Abdul Karim also highlighted RWMF’s reputation as a safe and family-friendly festival, saying it was an event where attendees need not worry about leaving their children or elderly family members on the festival grounds.

He thanked the reporter for raising the suggestion, saying it offered a fresh perspective for organisers as they looked at ways to make the festival more inclusive for long-time supporters. — DayakDaily
