This Neck Cooler Is On Its Sixth Try, Malaysia Might Finally Be Ready For It

Six generations in, and the pitch hasn’t changed much: wear it on the back of your neck, and it cools you down. 

What has changed is everything underneath — the engineering, the fit, the way the heat gets out.

The REON POCKET 6, announced in Malaysia recently, is the latest version of a wearable cooling device that Sony has been quietly refining since the first model launched years ago. 

It sits at the back of the neck, makes contact with the skin, and uses a thermoelectric module to pull heat away from the body. 

No ice, no fan blowing in your face. 

Just a small, light grey device that tucks under a collar and gets to work.

Two Modules, One Goal, Several Small Fixes That Actually Matter

The new version comes with what Sony calls a Compact DUAL Thermo Module — two independent cooling elements that alternate to sustain the sensation of cold rather than letting it plateau. 

The company says it delivers up to 2°C more cooling than the previous model, measured after ten minutes at rest in a 35°C environment. 

That last part matters; a lab at rest and a Malaysian commuter in motion are two very different things. 

But 35°C is, for much of the year, simply Tuesday here.

What’s new beyond the cooling is worth noting. 

The neckband has been redesigned with a wider internal tube, making it more flexible and better at following the user’s movements. 

The air vent — the part that exhausts heat from inside the unit — can now be extended, retracted, and angled. 

It’s Available Now, And There’s A Price

On earlier models, that vent was fixed, which meant the heat had to go somewhere regardless of what you were wearing. 

A T-shirt and a collared office shirt create very different airflow conditions. The new design accounts for that.

There are also physical buttons on the side of the unit for users who prefer not to reach for their phone every time they want to adjust the temperature. 

Power, mode, and temperature level — all accessible without unlocking anything.

The REON POCKET 6 is now available at Sony Store outlets at LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre, IOI City Mall, and The Curve, as well as online at store.sony.com.my. 

It comes as a kit with the device, a dedicated neckband, and a REON POCKET TAG 2 sensor included in the box.

The Reon Pocket 6 is priced at RM899.00 as a special offer, down from the original RM999.00, while the REON POCKET PRO Plus is also available for RM1,199; or you could always get a portable fan for much less.
