Netflix’s Little Brother Cast And Characters Guide
1 day ago
Although it isn’t categorized as a subgenre of its own, narratives revolving around two misfits who share brotherly bonds due to circumstances, have their own comedic charm. Director Matt Spicer’s latest Netflix film, “Little Brother,” falls into the same category, is extremely predictable and trope filled, but still has enough racy wits and sugary sentimentalism to grab viewers’ attention. Taking a look at the movie’s cast, which is led by comedic geniuses like John Cena, Eric Andre, Sherry Cola – it is easy to guess why despite having a simplistic plotline, the movie has caused quite a buzz among netizens. All in all, if you liked the “Step Brothers”, this one is right up in your alley.
Rudd Landy Played By John CenaFormer professional wrestler turned actor, John Cena had an average patch during the first phase of his silver screen career, appearing in movies like “The Marine,” “12 Rounds,” “F9” etc. The major shift in the trajectory of his acting career came with “The Suicide Squad”, and its spin-off series, “Peacemaker”, and since then he has been part of bigger projects like “Argylle,” “Heads of State,” “Pluribus,” “The Bear” etc. In “Little Brother” he plays the role of Rudd Landy, a materialistic, ambitious successful realtor who has become obsessed with making a mark on reality TV. Craving the model high life success of his billionaire elder brother, Josh, Rudd has always chased the perceived perfection and has lopsided priorities as a result. He has secretly pined for Josh’s approval, and mistakenly held on to the belief that materialistic success will help him obtain that. Rudd has a stable marriage, supportive wife and happy family life, all of which he takes for granted. It is no wonder that Rudd sees Marcus, his younger brother from a community project, as a chaotic interruption in his life, but at the same time tries to exploit their brotherly connection when it turns out to be useful for his reality tv stint. Rudd’s insecurity/ validation seeking tendency reaches its peak when he sees Josh bonding with Marcus – and prompts him to deal a low blow by exposing Marcus’ past.
However, at the end of the day, Rudd is at most a misguided man, and certainly not an amoral one. His conscience hits back after he realizes how much he misjudged Marcus, who selflessly loved him and wanted acknowledgement as his brother. Rudd grows as a person as he apologizes to Marcus, and turns his back on the prospects of his reality tv career. It doesn’t undo his mistakes completely, but at least it’s a first step for his reformation.
Marcus Pinchel Played By Eric AndreRenowned comedian, talk show host, actor Eric Andre gained popularity with his talk show, “The Eric Andre Show” and has starred in a number of small screen ventures such as “Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23,” “Man Seeking Woman”, “The Righteous Gemstones,” etc. Andre has an extensive voice acting career which includes performing in “Robot Chicken,” “Disenchantment,” “The Lion King,” “Sing 2” etc. In “Little Brother”, he plays the role of Marcus Pinchel, Rudd’s eccentric brother from a high school community project who has had quite a rough life. Underneath all his funkiness, Marcus is a deeply tragic soul who has lost his family, has been neglected by the world while spending his days in a psych ward in a hospital, and the only person whom he has looked upto, Rudd, has denied any responsibility towards him. Marcus never wanted to rekindle the brotherly bond he believes he has with Rudd in greed for any materialistic gains, he wanted a place to belong and believed his brother could give him that. In fact, the only reason Marcus actually visited Rudd, was his belief that he is in trouble and needs his presence. One can imagine the feeling of humiliation he must have felt after Rudd’s secretary, Mia, confesses she had been catfishing him by pretending to be her boss. In his own way, Marcus is a sensitive, understanding person, who tries his best to prove to be useful to his brother, and to help him sort out his family life. As someone who has tried to cling on to a sense of family while being shifted to different foster homes, Marcus realizes the true worth of what Rudd has. Truth be told, Marcus deserves much better, after everything he has gone through, it’s thanks to his kind heart that he forgives Rudd and Mia in the end. For what it’s worth, Marcus finally receives the closure he craved for in the end, as Rudd acknowledges him as his brother and makes him a part of his family.
Deirdre Landy played By Michelle MonaghanMichelle Monaghan has been a part of a number of popular silver screen ventures which include “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” “Gone Baby Gone,” “Mission Impossible” movie series, “Source Code,” “Eagle Eye” etc. She has also acted in acclaimed tv series such as “True Detective,” “The White Lotus,” “Echoes,” etc. In “Little Brother”, she plays the role of Deirdre Landy, Rudd’s supportive, loving wife. A kind, compassionate Deirdre, who has a penchant to look after the helpless and abandoned ones, convinced Rudd to bring Marcus home. In many ways, Deirdre acts as a moral compass to Rudd, and keeps him grounded.
Miscellaneous CharactersApart from the main characters, “Little Brother” has a strong ensemble of supporting characters who did well with the roles they were given. Christopher Meloni plays the role of Josh Landy, Rudd’s billionaire elder brother. Sherry Cola plays the role of Mia, Rudd’s secretary – whose antics are responsible for bringing Marcus back in Rudd’s life. Bryce Gheisar and Pilot Bunch respectively play Cory and Shane Lady, sons of Marcus and Deirdre.
