Waze alerts are coming to navigation in Rivian's electric vehicles
1 hour ago
Waze’s live alerts that track police sightings, speed cameras, and more are coming to the Rivian R1 and R2.
The Waze app supplements driving directions with real-time alerts based on driver input from other cars on the road with you. The feature has since been picked up by other navigation apps like Google Maps. In Rivian’s vehicles, however, some of these features take time since the company chooses to use proprietary software rather than Android Auto.
According to Rivian’s Wassym Bensaid, Waze’s real-time alerts will soon be available in the R1 and R2 on its own software. The post notes the feature will roll out with support for speed cameras and police sighting reports, which likely means other alert types like crash reports might tag along at a later date.
The company says those real-time reports will be supported in the upcoming 2026.31 OTA update. Waze’s in-vehicle navigation for Rivian’s vehicles will most likely continue to expand, as mentioned, but no further details are available.
