WhatsApp Guest Calling lets anyone join calls without an account or time limits
1 hour ago
Metahas introduced guest calling for WhatsApp, enabling anyone to join voice and video calls without registering for an account.
The feature provides free, end-to-end encrypted calling with no time restrictions, eliminating cutoffs and the need to restart calls mid conversation.
How to join a WhatsApp call as a guestOnly registered WhatsApp account holders can generate a call link.
To set up a session, an existing user opens the Calls tab in the mobile app, selects the plus icon, and creates a call link to share with participants.
Invited guests do not need the mobile application or desktop software installed.
Opening the shared URL inside a desktop web browser allows attendees to type in their name and join directly once admitted.
The system accommodates both one-on-one conversations and group sessions for up to 32 participants.
Host controls and participant privacyTo maintain meeting security, all guest attendees are placed into a virtual waiting room upon opening the link.
The host must manually approve each person before they can enter, and the host retains permission to remove any guest at any point during the session.
Privacy restrictions are applied to guest participants automatically. Guests cannot view the phone numbers of other attendees, send in call text messages, or invite additional users to the meeting.
However, guests retain access to essential collaboration tools, including screen sharing, emoji reactions, and the raise hand function.
WhatsApp calendar integration scheduled for later this yearWhatsApp will expand the capability later this year through dedicated integrations for Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook.
Users will be able to install an official plugin, link their account, and automatically append a WhatsApp call link to event invitations.
Recipients will be able to enter the scheduled meeting directly from their calendar entry, regardless of whether they have a WhatsApp account.
