M'sian minister, Steven Sim adopts college student who went viral for losing his luggage on the first day of orientation

A couple of months back, a young man has gone viral for losing his luggage on the first day. Days before his orientation week, his father called his education institution to see if they’re able to enroll him into his dorm a day earlier as bus tickets were sold out. Due to financial restrictions, they’re unable to take a cab all the way from Penang.

With the help of the kind lecturer, Mr. Zaidil Adha, the young man was able to retrieve his lost bag and settle into his dorm after a long day. Following his story, Human Resource minister, Steven Sim was made aware of his situation, leading him to contact Mr. Zaidil and the college student, Lim Zi Yang. Meeting both of them at a local restaurant, Sim was able to understand Lim’s situation.

As a sign of gratitude towards Mr. Zaidil who helped Lim, he was present with RM1,000 reward, as well as a certificate of appreciation, for the lecturer’s kind and noble efforts in taking care of Lim.

Understanding the struggles of Lim and his family, the Penang based minister has also decided to take it up a notch by adopting him as a child. To that note, Sim has vowed to financially assist Lim, providing him an extra RM200 every month, until he completes his studies.

“I’ve also decided to gift him an additional RM3,000 so it could help him during his college years”, said Sim.

Reflecting on his journey, Lim’s road to Penang from Johor was not easy as he was met with many trials and turbulences. Along with his father not being able to be by his side, giving him support, Lim had no choice but to depend on his own. Grateful for the opportunities he has received thus far, Lim promised to work hard and achieve his goals, so he could repay his dad for all the hard work and sacrifices.

We hope that the future shines brightly for Lim and thank you to all those who’ve helped Lim along the way!
