Former Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyalau Badak passes away at 74

KUCHING (Jan 20): Former Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyalau Badak passed away today at the age of 74 due to heart failure at the Sarawak Heart Centre, Kota Samarahan.
The two-term MP (2008-2018) was born on July 22, 1951.
He was also former district officer and Native Courts judge before entering politics through the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) platform.
He subsequently joined Parti Bersatu Sarawak (PSB) after being sacked by PRS leadership on April 23, 2018.
Nyalau also stood in the 2021 state elections on the PSB ticket in Batang Ai in a four corner fight, with the seat eventually being won by GPS candidate Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh.
He then quit PSB on Nov 8, 2022 and pledged his allegiance to the GPS ruling coalition.
Former Lubok Antu MP Jugah extended his heartfelt condolences to the family members of the late Nyalau.
He said: “You (Nyalau) are surrounded by people of Lubok Antu who cared about you, who remember you today and also every day by loving rakyat (people).”
Meanwhile, Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said he had lost a friend after Nyalau’s demise.
The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president said: “We were friends. We were ‘colleagues’ of Lubok Antu. I am saddened by his passing. May his soul rest in peace.”
