Lions, Leo clubs contribute disaster relief aid to fire victims in Niah

MIRI (Jan 21): Three Lions and one Leo club recently joined forces to bring disaster relief aid to fire victims from Rumah Chengkik Mangun in Sebatuk, Niah.

The 107 residents from 22 doors were left homeless by a fire on Dec 31.

Organised by Lions Club of Batu Niah in collaboration with Lions Club of Miri Mandarin, Lions Club of Lambir, and the Leo Club of Riam Road Secondary School, the aid items totalled RM6,000.

Lions Club of Batu Niah president Wilson Ho Wei Chee said the relief aid included 202 mattresses, 22 gas cylinders, daily necessities, kitchenware, and other essential items.

“Through these contributions, we hope to ease the burden of the fire victims in meeting their urgent needs.

“This is part of the principle of ‘We Serve’ that we uphold, by reaching out to those in need,” he said in a press release today.

He thanked Lions Club International and all donors as well as supporters for their generosity and tireless efforts in gathering all the items.

“Their compassion brought warmth and a community spirit to the victims,” he said.

He pledged that the Lions Club of Batu Niah would continue to serve the community’s needs and provide the necessary support.
