BELAGA, Feb 5: An inspection by the Belaga District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has identified 16 landslides along Jalan Menjawah Belaga, with several critical sites requiring immediate intervention.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the inspection was led by Kapit Division Resident Elvis Didit, accompanied by Belaga District officer Bidah Lujah, Belaga District Police chief DSP Jimbai Bala, and Belaga Public Works Department (JKR) officer-in-charge James Dana.
On Jalan Jiwa Murni Nanga Merit, the inspection extended only to Sungai Dungan, where three landslides were flagged for urgent attention by the contractor responsible for the road.
The assessment aimed to evaluare the extent of the damage and formulate both short- and long-term solutions, particularly by JKR.
With the situation worsening, authorities fear continuous rainfall could destabilise the area, potentially cutting off the main access route to and from Belaga.
Relevant agencies are urged to take swift action to prevent disruptions and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
Also present were representatives from key government agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Civil Defence Force (APM), the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), and People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA). — DayakDaily
