KUCHING, July 11: Global travel platform Klook is strengthening its collaboration with Malaysia to attract more Australian travellers ahead of Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026, including a major digital campaign and a travel carnival in Sydney this November.

This follows a strategic meeting between Klook’s Australian team and the Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing during his recent working visit to Sydney.

According to a Facebook post by Tiong yesterday (July 10), the discussion centred on expanding Klook’s marketing efforts and digital presence to showcase Malaysia’s diverse offerings to young and tech-savvy travellers—a segment that forms the bulk of Klook’s customer base.

“Klook’s primary users are younger travellers and Gen Z, with over 80 per cent of transactions done through mobile devices and 65 per cent via e-wallet payments,” Tiong shared.

Klook representatives at the meeting included Henry Hooper, Managing Director for the Americas, Oceania and UK markets; Mia Bacarro, Head of Marketing; and Miriam Mouahbi, Partnerships Manager.

They shared that the platform sees 70 million monthly visits, has been downloaded over 50 million times, and has facilitated over 180 million travel product bookings globally, with annual revenue reaching USD300 million.

In the Australian market, Klook collaborates with vehicle roadside assistance providers and heavily invests in platform-specific digital marketing to connect with its local audience.

Currently, Klook is running a six-week promotional campaign with Tourism Malaysia, launched on July 4, offering a 10 per cent discount and highlighting Malaysia’s cultural diversity and natural beauty. It is also planning a travel carnival in Sydney from Nov 8 to 9 to further boost visibility.

Malaysia recorded 477,785 tourist arrivals from Australia in 2024, up 11.7 per cent from the previous year. From January to April 2025, the figure reached 168,805, marking a 16.8 per cent year-on-year increase.

Recognising the growth potential, Tiong proposed that both parties deepen collaboration during the year-end travel season, particularly through enhanced social media campaigns and influencer-driven content.

He also encouraged Klook to explore Malaysia’s lesser-known attractions such as the hot springs in Perak—which he suggested could be positioned as alternatives to Japan’s onsen—and the Langanan Hot Springs in Sabah.

To support this, he invited Klook to organise a familiarisation trip covering Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak to uncover more tourism opportunities.

Tiong stressed the importance of early preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and thanked Klook for its ongoing support and interest in promoting Malaysia. — DayakDaily
