Bukit Song four-lane bridge opens to traffic, enhancing Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak link

MIRI, Sept 17: The long-anticipated four-lane dual carriageway at Bukit Song, forming part of the Lambir Section of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak, was fully opened to traffic at 4.45pm today, providing a smoother and safer journey for road users in northern Sarawak.

Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak director Ir Dr Cassidy Morris conducted an official site visit to the Lambir Section Viaduct under Work Package Contract (WPC) 11 today.

The opening of the stretch marks a significant step forward in the State’s road connectivity agenda.

In a post shared on JKR Sarawak social media, the Bukit Song viaduct, spanning 301.2 metres and constructed using the post-tensioned girder viaduct bridge method, is one of the key structures along the WPC 11 alignment connecting Sungai Tangap and Pujut Link Road.

As of August 25, the Lambir Section recorded an impressive 99.94 per cent overall physical progress, with the viaduct itself reaching 98.78 per cent completion.

While the road is now accessible to the public, motorists are advised to remain cautious as minor maintenance works are still being carried out at several points along the section.

The entire Lambir Section project is scheduled for full completion by Oct 31, 2025, and is expected to significantly enhance Sarawak’s northern transport network in line with the Sarawak’s Post Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. — DayakDaily
