Only 30 per cent believe Malaysia is on the right path - Muhyiddin

SHAH ALAM – Former prime minister and Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed concern over what he described as a serious lack of public confidence in the nation's direction.
Citing recent figures, he stated that more than 70 per cent of Malaysians believed the country was not on the right path.
"Most people don’t believe that the country is heading in the right direction... That is very serious," he said during a recent podcast with Sinar Daily.
He called for a "reset" of national governance to restore public trust and put the nation back on a firm course, which he deemed essential for meeting its long-term goals and reclaiming its status as a leading regional economy.
"We have to put this nation back on a solid footing... so that people believe there is a way forward," he added.
Muhyiddin criticised the government for failing to translate its policy blueprints into real progress, stating that ambitious plans such as the 13th Malaysia Plan had yet to deliver tangible outcomes.
"Plans are plans. If you are not able to execute as promised, then you fail. The question people are asking is what has actually happened over the last three years.
"Many promises have been made, but they have not been delivered. I’m not saying this because I’m the opposition head but it’s a fact," he said.
He cautioned that without effective governance, public trust in leadership would continue to erode.
"If you are a government, but people don’t trust you, whatever you say becomes just another slogan. This government is not performing, that’s what people are saying. As an individual, not just as a party leader, I don’t like to see this happening," he said.
Muhyiddin argued that Malaysia needs a clear roadmap for the next five to ten years, backed by decisive implementation, to regain Asian Tiger status.
His comments came amid ongoing debates about Malaysia’s economic performance, rising living costs and the effectiveness of government policies in addressing long-standing issues such as income disparity, job creation and investment competitiveness.
