Sarawak TYT’s 79th birthday night shines with tradition, entertainment

KUCHING, Oct 12: The 79th birthday of Sarawak’s Head of State (TYT), Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, was celebrated in grand style with traditional rituals and cultural performances at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) last night (Oct 11).

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Tun Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, were warmly received by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the latter’s daughter, Dayang Norjihan.

The evening began with a mesmerizing Zapin dance performance by the Sarawak Arts Council, showcasing the richness of Malay culture and traditions.

This was followed by a heartfelt prayer led by Grand Imam of Sarawak, Dato Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, invoking blessings for the TYT.

The highlight of the night was the ceremonial birthday cake cutting, witnessed by Toh Puan Fauziah, the Premier, and other distinguished guests.

A special video presentation chronicled Tun Wan Junaidi’s life, dedication and significant contributions to Sarawak, particularly his efforts in strengthening the state’s role under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Local artistes, including Bob Yusuf, Jali, Nur Hijrah Yahya and Mal Imran, entertained guests with songs celebrating unity and love for the State, adding a lively touch to the festivities.

The night concluded with a dazzling fireworks display, marking the end of a meaningful celebration filled with respect, culture and joy.

Among those present were Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof; Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Sarawak Cabinet Ministers; and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. — DayakDaily
