KUCHING, Oct 13: A 38-year-old man was found dead in a forest area along Jalan Lipus in Kanowit on Sunday (Oct 12), where he was believed to have succumbed to a seizure.

According to Kanowit police chief DSP Junical Ujal, the victim, identified as Philemon Bernard, was believed to have lost consciousness while in the orchard with his father and a friend.

“Initial investigation found that the victim, his father, and a friend had gone to the orchard in the forest area of Jalan Lipus to collect fruits and set up nets.

“Shortly after, the victim was seen having a seizure before collapsing and losing consciousness,” he said when contacted by TVS.

He added that upon receiving the report at 7.52pm, a team of police officers, together with firefighters, was dispatched to the location, which was about 26 kilometres from the main road.

According to him, the journey to the site took more than an hour due to the hilly and muddy terrain.

“Upon arrival, the team found the victim lying by the forest road, fully clothed,” he said.

A medical examination conducted at Kanowit Hospital found no signs of foul play on the body, and the death was confirmed by a doctor at 11.50pm. The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR).

The family informed authorities that the victim had a history of epilepsy since childhood and declined a post-mortem as no criminal elements were detected. — DayakDaily
