40-tonne lorry parked near residential area catches fire, cause unknown

MIRI (Oct 13): A 40-tonne lorry parked near Taman Milea Residence, not far from Jalan Miri-Bypass here, was badly damaged after it caught fire in the early hours of today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a call on the incident was received at 4.43am, and a team from the Lopeng fire station was rushed to the location.

“The fire involved the lorry’s cab, and was extinguished within five minutes of the team’s arrival,” it said in a statement.

After conducting checks to ensure no risk of the fire reigniting, the team departed back to their station at 5.24am.

Bomba said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
