Aeson Power Sodium-ion battery launched in Malaysia

Aeson Power has officially launched in Malaysia and they are introducing its new lineup of Sodium-ion automotive battery for the local market. This includes its NaPulse Starting, NaPlus Start-Stop and NaForce Start-Stop series.

Compared to typical lead-acid batteries, Aeson Power Sodium-ion batteries are lighter by up to 73%, designed to last longer and better suited for Malaysia’s hot climate.

Aeson Power is an energy solutions provider headquartered in Australia and it is backed by Xupai, a leading manufacturer in lead-acid battery technology. The company believes Sodium-ion is the future as it continue to emerge as a more efficient alternative to traditional lead-acid technologies. They are bringing its latest lineup of Sodium-ion batteries globally with Malaysia as a key market.

Aeson Power Sodium-ion Battery Pricing in Malaysia

The Aeson Power Sodium-ion starter batteries are priced from RM369 with 2-year warranty as standard. You can extend it to 3 year warranty for an additional RM20-30. Here’s the pricing with the base 2-year warranty:

Here’s the pricing for the Start-Stop series with the base 2-year warranty. You can get 3-year warranty for an additional RM40-70.

Aeson Power Sodium-ion batteries are available for purchase via the online store as well as participating dealers and retail outlets in Malaysia.

Advantages of Sodium-ion battery over Lead Acid battery

According to Aeson Power, its products are designed to be compatible with more than 95% of vehicles in the market and is readibly available in various markets worldwide as replacements for conventional MF, EFB and AGM batteries.

It shared that conventional lead-acid batteries can suffer from diminished power, accelerated discharge or swelling in our hot and humid conditions where the temperature in the engine bay can reach above 60 degrees Celsius. This is where Sodium-ion batteries have the advantage as it can maintain stable performance and significantly mitigate risks of fire and explosion.

Aeson Power said its batteries are uniquely suited to Malaysia’s hot climate as it is capable of long-term operation under conditions of up to 80 degrees Celsius. It claimed that its Sodium-ion batteries are able to retain capacity of above 85% even after one month storage at 60 degrees Celsius.

Their batteries are significantly lighter too by up to 73%. During the launch, they demonstrated a weight comparison where its large H8 Sodium-ion battery weighs just 8.5kg versus a smaller 46B20L lead-acid battery that weighs 9.9kg. The weight reduction is made possible with the use of polyanion cathode material technology and the z-fold stacking structure within the pouch cells offer higher energy density.

The battery also boasts 1C fast charging and you can get from 0-100% in just 40 minutes, which is 5x faster than lead-acid.

In addition, Aeson Power’s Sodium-ion battery also offers up to 3x the life cycle of traditional lead-acid batteries with up to 3,000 versus just 500-1,200.

On top of that, their lab tests reveals that the life cycle of its battery exhibits minimal degradation at high temperature where lead-acid batteries typically lose 15% life cycle for every 10 degree Celsius increase in temperature.

In terms of power, Aeson Power says the battery’s ultra-low internal resistance properties enables strong burst of energy with the starting performance 2-3x greater than that of lead-acid, and peak current in the first 0.3 seconds, exceeding 3x that of lead-acid.

It added that the Sodium-ion battery has a wide operating voltage range of 6-14V which provides superior durability and adaptability. According to Aeson Power, this advantage allows vehicles to start even at 10.5V whereas lead-acid batteries typically fail below 12V.
