Pundit hails Premier’s Order of the Rising Sun award as ‘integrity at work of the highest int’l standard’

KUCHING, Nov 17: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star from the Emperor of Japan was integrity at work of the highest international standard.

In a statement, political pundit Dato Peter Minos said the award showed Abang Johari’s sincere, honest, and principled efforts in strengthening ties with Japan, which was, in return, recognised and appreciated at the highest level.

“He leads with honesty and integrity, and that explains why, at 75, he continues to serve energetically and joyfully. He is truly blessed,” said Minos.

Minos went on to say that integrity is essential in life, as without it, one will not go far—even if they have the knowledge and expertise.

“On the contrary, knowledge without integrity is dangerous. We have seen highly educated and capable individuals fall from grace due to a lack of integrity, causing harm to society and the nation,” he said.

He added that integrity is shaped by upbringing, nurtured naturally, and strengthened through religious teachings and belief in God—residing within an individual and becoming part of their character and values.

Minos also echoed the Premier’s view that integrity is key to Sarawak’s progress, and that without it, the State risks sliding backwards. — DayakDaily
