A 17-year-old boy who had just completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination broke his left arm in an accident after riding his motorcycle against traffic.

A video of the accident circulated on social media, showing the teen, who was also carrying a pillion rider—falling to the ground after crashing into a car. The accident involved a 30-year-old driver, the 17-year-old rider, and a 20-year-old pillion rider.

The incident took place on Jalan MKH Boulevard 2 in Kajang on 4 December at around 2 PM.

The rider had no valid motorcycle license

In an official statement by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Kajang, the accident was caused by the teen rider’s failure to heed a signboard, which led him to collide with an oncoming car. Investigations also revealed that the teen rider did not have a valid license.

The 17-year-old suffered injuries to his leg and broke his left arm. He is currently receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital.

The pillion rider and the driver, however, did not sustain any injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. If found guilty, the offender can face a fine of up to RM10,000 and a jail sentence of not more than one year.

In its statement, PDRM also urged the public to abide by traffic rules.
