Cabinet reshuffle: ‘I have thought of several individuals, but list has not been finalised’ - Anwar

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he has thought of several individuals who are suitable to be appointed to fill the vacancies in the Cabinet but the list has not been finalised.

Without naming any individuals, the Prime Minister said that the list would be discussed with the leaders of the political parties that form the MADANI Government before any decision is made.

He also hinted that a minor reshuffle would surely be carried out to fill the vacancies in the Cabinet.

"Although this appointment is the Prime Minister's prerogative, I believe it is necessary to reflect and listen (to the advice of the party leaders) in addition to thanking them for their opinions.

"So far, I have not met any party leader to discuss this matter," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Also present were the Prime Minister's wife, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Asked about MCA's call for Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to be dropped from the Cabinet, the Prime Minister only said that he was grateful for the proposal.

"Thank you for MCA's views but it doesn't matter because this (the call to drop Fadhlina from the Cabinet) is their view," he said, who is also the Finance Minister.

Meanwhile, Anwar denied allegations that the Cabinet interfered in the affairs of the Dewan Rakyat regarding the issue of the suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chief Whip, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

"The Cabinet also comprises party leaders who will advise their 'backbenchers' and this is normal.

"I remember (such practices) have been going on for decades, including when they (PN) were in government," he said. - December 7, 2025
