KUCHING, Jan 12: Sarawak is expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds for short periods, particularly in the late afternoon and early night, despite an overall hot and drier weather pattern affecting most parts of the country.
In a statement issued today, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said weather forecast models indicate generally hot conditions with less rainfall across many areas, including northern Peninsular Malaysia, until Jan 18.
However, MetMalaysia cautioned that isolated thunderstorm activity remains possible, especially over western Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, due to localised atmospheric conditions.
As of 12.50pm today, MetMalaysia issued a thunderstorm warning for several areas in Sarawak, involving Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (including Selangau), Mukah, and Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu).
The warning, which includes the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds, is in effect until 3pm today.
MetMalaysia advised the public to remain vigilant and stay updated with the latest weather information through its official website at www.met.gov.my, official social media platforms, or the myCuaca mobile application. — DayakDaily
