53 foreigners detained in Kuching immigration operation

KUCHING (Jan 15): A total 53 foreign nationals were detained for suspected immigration law violations during an enforcement operation carried out by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Sarawak around Kuching city recently.

JIM Sarawak, in a statement, said the operation, conducted from the early hours of Tuesday until early Wednesday, involved 29 immigration officers and targeted several locations identified as high-risk.

Among the areas inspected were residential houses in plantation areas around Kampung Trombol, several factories in the Demak industrial zone, as well as workers’ quarters at a construction site along Jalan Arang.

“All those detained were brought in for further investigation, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with existing immigration laws,” it said.

JIM Sarawak said the department remains committed to carrying out continuous enforcement operations to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and to safeguard national security.
