The bizarre act was documented in an Instagram video dated Jan 23, which has since garnered over 60,000 likes at the time of writing.
Spat water at commuters & floorIn the clip, the woman is seen talking a gulp out of a plastic water bottle before releasing it on a fellow commuter, causing him to flinch and move a few steps backwards.
She then repeats the actions several more times, leaving more commuters and the floor wet.
While most commuters simply looked on, a female passenger, clearly annoyed by the unwanted “shower”, proceeded to confront the woman and attempted to snatch the bottle away while shouting: “What’s wrong with you?”
Following a brief tussle, the woman retreated to a corner and stopped spitting water as the female passenger could be heard saying: “Nobody is offending you right? This is not the first time you do this!”
Background checkNetizens wasted little time in digging into the woman’s background in order to understand what may have triggered her behaviour.
Mothership reported that based on some online sleuthing, the woman was found to be a client of a charity that assists those with mental health conditions reintegrate into the community.
On top of that, she also made an appearance on CNA last October for World Mental Health Day, where she was described as an autistic person who was diagnosed with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at 17.
Singaporean laws forbid spitting, or expelling mucus from the nose, onto the street, the floor, or any public area.
Those caught doing so face a fine of up to S$1,000 (RM3,100) for a first-time conviction, and up to S$2,000 (RM6,200) for subsequent convictions.
