MALAYSIA is ranked 13th as the most peaceful country in the world and second in Southeast Asia based on the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, said Malaysia's position jumped four places compared to the previous year following its success in reducing the crime index by 6.4 per cent.
"I am confident that this success is driven by the integrated efforts of the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) through enforcement agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
"Although there were several incidents and events that caused shocks during the study period from March 2025 to this month, the level of security in this country is generally still in a good condition and under control," he said in his speech at the 219th Police Day Commemoration Ceremony 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (PULAPOL), today.
The ceremony was officiated by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah; Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Mohd Khalid said that the PDRM is facing a challenging era when threats come from various angles and forms.
He said that the Ulu Tiram Police Station attack incident is an example of individuals or parties who dare to challenge the country's laws.
He said the allocation of RM12.06 billion for the PDRM is important to address increasingly complex security threats and efforts to improve infrastructure to be more progressive. – March 25, 2026
