Netflix’s Blood Sisters is back with another season of revenge and drama. The Nigerian thriller series is centered around the sisterhood of two childhood best friends, Sarah and Kemi. In season 1, Kemi murdered Sarah’s would-be husband, Kola, and together they got rid of his body. Kola was an abusive man who tortured Sarah, and her best friend came to her rescue. Sarah and Kemi were eventually arrested for the crime, and in season 2, we find out what happened in the trial, and whether or not Sarah and Kemi managed to prove in court that they acted in self-defense. Also, is Kola’s mother, Uduak, alive? Because the last thing we know is that her daughter, Timiyen, had held a gun to her head and threatened to kill her. If she survived, what deal did she cut with Timiyen?
Spoiler Alert
Who helped Sarah escape from prison?Sarah and Kemi hoped and prayed that the judge would sympathize with them and give them a lenient sentence, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Even if the court assumed that they had acted out of self-defense and decapitated Kola’s body fearing that nobody would believe them, they also faced other murder charges that further complicated the case. Uduak, who shockingly survived, was determined to avenge her son, so she was ready to do anything to ensure that Sarah and Kemi were given the death sentence. As it turned out, Uduak had made a deal with her daughter, Timiyen, so that she would not put a bullet in her head. She made Timiyen the head of the pharmaceutical company, and in court, she blamed Sarah and Kemi for Uncle B’s murder, even though her daughter was the one who’d killed him. The court ultimately sentenced Sarah to life imprisonment, and since Kemi was the one who’d pulled the trigger on Kola, she was sentenced to death by hanging. After the court announced its verdict, Sarah and Kemi lost all hope. Kemi tried to make peace with the verdict, she figured she would at least find peace after death, but Sarah couldn’t imagine her life without Kemi. Life in prison was difficult for Kemi and Sarah, there were bullies who threatened them regularly, and they were expected to join a gang for protection. Soon after the verdict, when Sarah’s mother came to visit her in prison, she discovered that her father had passed away. She blamed herself for his death, but her mother repeatedly stated it wasn’t her fault. She added that she’d made arrangements to help Sarah break out of prison, but she refused to leave without her best friend. Her mother agreed to include Kemi as well, and her plan was to send them to Ghana, where they could start their life anew. Sarah and Kemi saw a ray of hope again, but we soon discovered that Sarah’s mother had lied to her, she had only made arrangements to help her daughter escape, and not Kemi. Sarah was cornered one morning, and before she could even figure out what was going on, she was taken away and brought out of prison. She felt relieved to be reunited with her mother, but was extremely disappointed when she discovered that her mother wanted her to move to Ghana without Kemi. She refused to go anywhere without her best friend, but her mother reminded her that she had to focus on her life instead of worrying about Kemi.
Did Kemi forgive Sarah?Kemi couldn’t believe that Sarah had betrayed her, she thought they would always be together, and she was furious when she learned that Sarah had managed to escape from prison. She was initially hopeful that Sarah would come back for her, but gradually she had to come to accept that Sarah had abandoned her. Kemi had become extremely violent in prison in order to survive, she even killed an inmate who had been recently brought in to replace Sarah. We get an idea of how corrupt the prison system in Nigeria is, where a random woman replaces a prison inmate, and the guards don’t even question it. Kemi had a violent side that she was no longer afraid of expressing, because she had nothing left to lose anymore. She was in prison because she had protected her best friend, making this incredible sacrifice for Sarah and finding out that her best friend abandoned her was devastating for her. Kemi found herself in a difficult spot when she attacked one of the most influential inmates in prison. Her followers threatened to kill her, and the guards took her aside. She was forcefully taken away in a police van, and Kemi didn’t know what to make of the situation. The guards asked her to run, and as she did so, she was shot from behind. Uduak had asked the prison guards to kill Kemi, especially after Sarah had gone missing. But Sarah managed to use Uduak’s plan to her advantage. She bribed the guards with the money she’d recently received from Timiyen, who owed Sarah and Kemi since they were paying the price for her crimes. The guards were instructed to make it look like an encounter gone wrong, although they weren’t supposed to shoot Kemi at all. While Kemi was relieved when she saw her lawyer at the encounter site, she was still upset with Sarah. When she met Sarah, she refused to engage with her, even though Sarah tried to explain that she never wanted to leave her behind. Uncle B’s son, B Junior, was determined to avenge his father, and he’d been working with Uduak to ensure that the people who’d killed his father were punished. B Junior had been following Sarah’s mother and their lawyer, Folake, when they were driving to the safe house, and he ended up shooting Sarah’s mother. Sarah and Kemi somehow managed to hide from B Junior, but by the time they arrived at the safe house, Sarah’s mother had bled to death. Sarah was devastated; in a short span of time she’d lost both her parents, and she felt completely hopeless. Kemi sympathized with her, and she promised to always be there for Sarah. Although the best friends had hit a rough patch, Kemi loved Sarah enough to forgive her and support her when she needed her the most.
Is Uduak dead?Timiyen had recently discovered that the man she’d fallen in love with and was considering marrying was hired by her sister-in-law, Olayinka, to keep a constant watch on her. Timiyen’s brother, Femi, had learned about this secret, and in an attempt to embarrass his wife, he told Timiyen the truth. Timiyen was heartbroken, for the first time she thought she’d found someone who genuinely cared about her, but clearly that wasn’t the case. She expected some sympathy from her mother, but she instead laughed at her misery, and that made her extremely furious. She regretted not putting the bullet in her mother’s head, and she decided to seek help from Sarah and Kemi to put an end to her mother’s life. She knew that Sarah and Kemi were desperate to seek revenge, and she could use them to her advantage. Timiyen asked the security guards to go home so that Sarah and Kemi could sneak in and kill Uduak.
In Blood Sisters season 2’s ending, Sarah, Kemi, and Timiyen held Uduak at gunpoint, tied her hands and taped her mouth. They made her climb into the trunk of a car and planned on taking her to a remote spot and killing her, but there was a change of plan when B Junior showed up. He’d already found out that Timiyen was the one who’d killed his father, not Sarah and Kemi. When he pulled out his gun to shoot Timiyen, Sarah shot him. She figured she didn’t have a choice; if Timiyen were killed, they wouldn’t get their revenge. Soon, Femi and Olayinka also showed up and demanded to know what Timiyen was up to. Sarah and Kemi realized that if they stayed any longer, they would again find themselves in trouble. So, they quietly stepped away and escaped the mansion. Timiyen told Femi that it was time they killed their mother, since she was the reason behind every problem in their lives. They both blamed Uduak for the dysfunction within their family, Uduak always made them crave affection, and even when they tried to make her proud, she didn’t appreciate them. Timiyen believed it was time that she and Femi overcome their differences and kill their mother, because only then would they ever truly heal. Femi agreed with her, and Olayinka supported her husband’s decision. Together, they keep Uduak locked in the trunk of the car, and this leaves us room to assume that Uduak might once again come out of a tricky situation alive. Femi wants to head the company again, and Olayinka craves nothing but power, so if Uduak promises them whatever they want, then maybe they will decide to get rid of Timiyen instead of Uduak. It’s also likely that Femi will trick his sister into believing he is supporting her, but when the time comes to pull the trigger on their mother, he will have his wife kill Timiyen instead. Clearly, the show’s creators have chosen to leave enough room for the story to develop if the show gets renewed for another season.
Did Kemi and Sarah leave the country?Kemi and Sarah were free, but for how long? They had managed to escape from the Ademola mansion, and it looked like they were heading to the border to make it to Ghana. Since they’ve lost everything they loved, it can be assumed that they will want to start their lives from scratch in a different country with new identities. And while a new beginning is all they need, the question is, will the Ademola family give up on them? If Uduak dies, then Kemi and Sarah won’t really have to worry about being randomly killed or arrested. Femi didn’t care about bringing justice to Kola, and he and Timiyen knew that Kola wasn’t a man of great character like his mother portrayed him to be. So, if Uduak is out of the picture, then Kemi and Sarah can live fearlessly. But if she somehow continues to live, then she surely is going to make Sarah and Kemi’s lives a living hell. She is ready to do anything to avenge her son, and she won’t rest until she gets Sarah and Kemi murdered and their bodies mutilated.
Blood Sisters season 2 ends on a hopeful note, where it looks like the Ademola siblings are ready to break the cycle of trauma and move on with their lives, and Kemi and Sarah have found their freedom, albeit at a great cost. But the show creators also leave room for a season 3, where we can once again expect Uduak to do everything in her power to kill Sarah and Kemi. The police commissioner has already arrested Folake, but considering the lawyer deeply cares about Sarah and Kemi, she won’t give him any information on them. Also, if Uduak goes missing, the police commissioner will dig into the matter, and once again, the best friends will be blamed for it. Unless Femi and Timiyen conspire against each other and try to convince the cops that the other is responsible for their mother’s disappearance. Things will only work in their favor if Femi and Timiyen work together as a team and pin the blame on Sarah and Kemi again, or just bribe the police commissioner to shut down the case!
