Adelia-Adania clinch girls’ doubles crown at the IBF World Youth Championships

KUALA LUMPUR - National junior keglers Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee and Adania Mohd Redzwan ended Malaysia's 20-year wait for glory when they clinched the girls' doubles crown at the International Bowling Federation (IBF) World Youth Championships at Megalanes Sarawak, Kuching today.

The Malaysians beat American pair Erin Klemencic and Elizabeth Teuber 2-0 (244-181, 207-201) to emulate the feat of Esther Cheah and Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi, who delivered the country's first girls' doubles world title at the 2006 edition in Berlin, Germany.

Adelia and Adania had earlier helped the national girls squad bag bronze in the team event. The pair will now turn their attention to the mixed team final.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil congratulated the national youth bowling team after the win, praising Adelia and Adania for securing Malaysia's second world girls' doubles crown.

"Congratulations, our young national heroes. Well done, champions! We are proud of you," he said in a Facebook post.

Fahmi also congratulated the national team on winning gold in the mixed team event, where Adelia and Adania were joined by Aiman Syahin and Ethan Damien. - BERNAMA
