2026 Emmy Awards: Winners and Highlights

The countdown to television’s biggest honours came to a head at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards this week, and boy, was there plenty to celebrate! Hosted by Mariska Hargitay, the ceremony marked another year of TV shows that kept audiences tuning in, with familiar favourites returning to the winners’ circle, new records being set, and several stars finally receiving their long-overdue recognition.

On the drama side, HBO Max’s The Pitt took home Outstanding Drama Series for the second consecutive year, while leading man Noah Wyle also continued his winning streak with another Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nod for his role as Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. Meanwhile, Pluribus’ Rhea Seehorn finally claimed her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Over in the comedy genre, records were broken as Widow’s Bay racked up 14 accolades overall, including awards from last week’s Creative Arts Emmys. The Apple TV+ series took home Outstanding Comedy Series alongside several major acting, directing, and writing awards, but it was Matthew Rhys who made history by becoming the first performer to win two lead acting Emmys within the same ceremony. The Welsh actor picked up Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for The Beast in Me.

Elsewhere, Hacks’ Jean Smart added another milestone to her career, claiming Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the fifth consecutive year. The Diplomat’s Allison Janney brought her acting Emmy tally to eight with her win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, tying Smart for the record for most acting wins by a performer.

BOB HOPE HUMANITARIAN AWARD: MICHAEL J. FOX

The ceremony also honoured Michael J. Fox with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his longstanding philanthropic work and advocacy. Best known for his role as Marty McFly in Back to the Future, the actor has spent decades using his platform to support Parkinson’s research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation, after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at the age of 29.

“Accepting Parkinson’s didn’t mean I had to surrender to it. It just meant doing what I could for everyone living with this disease,” Fox said during his acceptance speech. The award recognises his transformative contributions to Parkinson’s research and the lasting impact of his advocacy.
