KUCHING, Oct 6: More than RM950 million was jointly mobilised by federal and Sarawak agencies this year to strengthen Sarawak’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
According to a statement, the Sarawak Economic Development and Coordination Committee (SEDCC) coordinated the effort, serving as a platform for collaboration among the federal and Sarawak governments, government-linked companies (GLCs), financial institutions, and the private sector.
“Through SEDCC coordination, more than RM950 million was jointly mobilised by federal and Sarawak agencies from January to October 2026 to strengthen Sarawak’s entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said the SEDCC following a meeting officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
It said that the approach ensures that financing facilities, capacity-building programmes, training, and market access provided by various agencies complement one another in helping Sarawak enterprises progress to a higher level.
“From 2021 to 2025, Sarawak recorded more than RM116 billion in approved investments, while another RM11.2 billion was approved in the first half of 2026, involving the primary, manufacturing, and services sectors,” it said.
Meanwhile, the exchange of agreement documents for the master plan to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak marked another important step towards improving the competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of SMEs.
“The master plan will provide a comprehensive and long-term direction covering innovation and digitalisation, access to financing and markets, capacity development, as well as strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem,” the statement said.
The strategic collaboration between the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) and Unimas Holdings Sdn Bhd through the initiative also reflects a joint effort to build a stronger, more sustainable SME ecosystem.
Overall, these efforts support the aspirations of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to achieve a RM282 billion Sarawak economy and a median monthly household income of RM15,000 through enterprise growth, job creation, and increased incomes for the people. — DayakDaily
