Chopard’s Ice Cube collection is sculpted by light
1 month ago
When it comes to contemporary luxury jewellery, Chopard’s Ice Cube collection stands out not merely for its elegance and sophistication, but for its purity of form. This iconic design was first introduced in 1999 by Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Scheufele, who favoured understated, clean lines over extravagant embellishments. The collection’s hallmark—the cube motif—encapsulates geometric perfection and enhances light reflection with its intricately faceted design. The lineup has since evolved, consistently captivating with its dynamic interplay of light and form.
The Maison’s latest campaign celebrates the allure of Ice Cube jewellery. Headlined by the freshly minted Global Ambassador Bella Hadid and shot by British fashion photographer and director Charlotte Wales, the ‘Sculpted by Light’ campaign flawlessly blends Hadid’s radiant presence with the sunlit shimmer of the exquisite pieces. The campaign unfolds in an abstract metropolitan setting with a mirrored night skyline, where the illuminated windows of buildings echo the brilliance of the jewellery. The night setting amplifies the jewellery’s luminous glow, creating a stunning contrast between the icons.
With key elements like light, shape and durable materials, the pieces make a striking impact with their minimalist, graphic lines, echoing the Bauhaus movement’s fundamental principles of simplicity and functionality.
Another feature to highlight is the seamless integration of cutting-edge technology with artisanal craftsmanship. The cube’s repetitive motif might appear simple, but its four perfectly symmetrical edges are subtly faceted. This meticulous detailing creates multiple points of light refraction, amplifying the jewellery’s brilliance and adding a sophisticated sparkle.
After six years of intensive research and development, advanced machining techniques have perfected the milling process, producing impeccably taut lines on the smallest surfaces. The precision machining attains accuracy to a hundredth of a centimetre, resulting in an exceptionally refined pre-polished surface. This surface is then carefully hand-buffed with a specialised pad to achieve ultimate shine and brilliance. This process, along with the diamond paving on the gemset sections, is carried out entirely by hand (and of course, by light).
