In Malaysia, giving door gifts at wedding ceremonies is a common tradition. Typically, these gifts consist of food items like sweets, boiled eggs (at Malay weddings), or laddus (at Indian ceremonies).

However, a recent TikTok video revealed an unusual and rare door gift that was given to attendees at a wedding ceremony – a fighting fish!

The TikTok video, shared by user @mohamadhidayat95, captures the moment when the unique door gift was discovered.

The video shows four large plastic containers filled with dozens of small plastic bags, each containing a fighting fish, to be given to the wedding guests.

“Different, indeed!” commented the TikTok user, clearly surprised by the unconventional gift.

The video, which has received over 390,000 views, has sparked significant attention and excitement on social media.

Browsing through the comment section, it is evident that many TikTok users found this door gift to be quite unique and hard to come by.

Some also expressed admiration for the hosts, as the cost of fighting fish in the market can be quite high.

A few users even joked that the guests now had a new responsibility – to take care of their newly acquired fish.

Fighting Fish

For those unfamiliar, fighting fish, or Betta by its scientific name, include 73 species worldwide.

The most well-known types are the Betta splendens (Siamese fighting fish) and the Betta imbellis (known locally as the “kampung fish”).

Fighting fish prices vary widely in the market depending on their type and grade.

From our finding, a fighting fish is sold for as low as RM3.90 to as high as RM7,000.
