The Good Earth Run 2024, held at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam on 8 September, made a powerful statement by embracing sustainability and challenging traditional event practices.

The organizer, HOPE Worldwide Malaysia, took a bold step by eliminating finisher medals and encouraging participants to re-wear their running shirts.

The event featured a 3km Masquerade Walk and a 10km Fun Run, bringing together eco-conscious runners and supporters to raise RM150,000 for HOPE Worldwide Malaysia’s Sustainable Green Program.

By participating in the event, they contributed to the Sustainable Green Program and demonstrated that sustainability can be incorporated into every aspect of our lives.

Instead of medals, finishers received potted plants as a symbol of growth and environmental consciousness.

This unique approach reduced waste and served as a reminder of the event’s green mission.

HOPE Worldwide Malaysia chairman Cheong Hom Tai told TRP that the event promoted a more sustainable approach to sportswear by encouraging participants to re-wear their running shirts and say no to fast fashion.

Setting an Example for Sustainable Events

Cheong added that the Good Earth Run proved that events can be successful and impactful without relying on traditional practices that generate waste.

The event’s key sponsors were end-to-end human capital provider ExcelForce and electrical and mechanical engineering KAB.

Starbucks and Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur also played a significant role in supporting the event’s green mission.

Other notable sponsors included KPMG, Aeon, IGB, One Living and PUMA.
