Earlier this month, Gemini Live started rolling out to free users on Android and it’s now, including the 10 voices, fully available in English. This follows the initial launch for Gemini Advanced subscribers in August.
Live lets you have a back-and-forth conversation with Gemini that features natural exchanges, like being able to interrupt responses with new instructions or information.
You access it from the bottom-right corner of Gemini overlay or app. This opens a fullscreen UI with “Hold” and “End” buttons at the bottom. The waveform animation is nice to look at, but you can close the app and have Gemini Live continue to work in the background as you multitask. You can say “stop” to end the session or swipe down for the notification.
All conversations feature a text transcript showing your prompts and Gemini’s responses, like other exchanges to let you restart a session.
Gemini Live supports 10 new voices that apply to all of Gemini. Go to Gemini settings > Gemini’s voice to access:
Live does not yet support Gemini Extensions to access Gmail, YouTube Music, and other services from real-time chat, but that is coming, along with camera capabilities as part of Project Astra. Google will also bring Gemini Live to the iOS app in the future.
Make sure the Google app is up-to-date, while you can force stop the Gemini (Google) app to load new updates
