Physical driving licences and road tax back next year, says Loke

A NEW initiative will be introduced next year for those who wish to obtain physical driving licences and road tax, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
According to reports in The New Straits Times, he told the Dewan Rakyat that this is in response to complaints from the public, as some still prefer to use physical driving licences and road tax.
"Next year we will announce an initiative for anyone who wishes to print their licence physically and they may need to pay for the printing," he said in response to Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang).
Loke, however, did not elaborate further on the charges that will be imposed.
On another matter, he said the employee who was seen punching a foreigner at KLIA’s “not to land” (NTL) zone has been suspended from duty.
He said the employee is from AeroDarat Services Sdn Bhd, a company engaged to manage the NTL area.
“The man had already been suspended and slapped with a show cause letter while awaiting a full investigation from the management,” he said.
On a recent incident where a teenage boy was killed after being electrocuted while charging his phone on an express bus, Loke said the incident was due to faulty electrical wiring.
He said that the wiring on the bus was improperly connected, causing a fatal electrical surge when the teenager plugged in his phone.
"During inspections of other buses from the company, investigators found similar wiring issues on another bus, prompting the suspension of the operator’s entire fleet.
"Following this incident, the ministry and relevant authorities are working to establish proper guidelines for electrical and wiring systems on buses," he added. - November 20, 2024
