Pixel 9’s post-setup data copying coming to more Android phones in 2025

With the Pixel 9, Google introduced the ability to copy data from another device after the initial setup process, with other phones now set to get this feature in 2025 as part of Android Switch improvements.
With the Pixel 9 (on Android 14), Google introduced a high-level “Back up or copy data” page to the system Settings app. Google pitches this as letting you “check out your new phone first and transfer your data later.”
This capability is “coming to more Android phone makers in 2025,” so that you can “quickly complete your initial setup and get your data when you’re ready.” A post-setup data copy can be done from Settings or the recently renamed Android Switch app, which is now live on iOS and Android.
Speaking of Android Switch, Google says it has been working to “improve the process of setting up your Android phone and transferring your information” over the past two years.
For example, it’s now “40% faster to transfer your data compared to 2023” from iOS to Android over cable.
Google also credits RCS as helping make the switching process easier:
However, there’s no mention today of full RCS transfers like on the Pixel 9 for other Android devices.
