Australia’s Coral Geographer makes inaugural stop in Kuching, showcasing Sarawak’s natural wonders

KUCHING (Nov 21): The Coral Geographer cruise ship, operated by Coral Expeditions from Australia, made its inaugural arrival in Kuching last Tuesday, carrying 125 passengers along with two lecturers and seven expedition crew members.

A press release from Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) said the passengers – mainly from Australia – were welcomed with a garlanding ceremony and vibrant cultural reception from Persatuan Ngajat Asal Iban dancers.

“The passengers embarked on exciting shore excursions designed to showcase Sarawak’s unique attractions.

“Highlights of the tour included visits to the iconic Borneo Cultures Museum as well as the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, where they saw orangutans in their natural habitat.

“Other activities included birding at Kubah National Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity, as well as an immersive adventure at Bako National Park, famed for its scenic landscapes and wildlife,” said the press release.

Prior to its arrival in Kuching, the Coral Geographer docked in Miri on Nov 17.

In Miri, they participated in diving activities at the Miri-Sibuti Reef National Park and visited the Lambir Hills National Park and Niah National Park, which was recently recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The arrival of the Coral Geographer was facilitated by GAC and Fortune Shipping, ensuring seamless coordination for the passengers’ visit to Sarawak.

The cruise ship is scheduled to return to Kuching this Dec 26 for a second visit.

“This recurring interest from the cruise operators highlights the appeal of Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and community-driven tourism initiatives,” said STB in the press release.

“Visitors are treated to authentic experiences that celebrate Sarawak’s ‘Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festivals’ (CANFF) pillars, leaving lasting impressions of this unique destination.
