Guan Eng demands explanation over MoE’s Taliban-led delegation visit

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has demanded an explanation from Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek regarding the visit of officials from the Taliban-led Afghanistan government.
The Bagan Member of Parliament claimed that he only found out about the delegation's visit from a report published by an online portal, recently.
He said the delegation's visit raised questions as it was not informed to the public, including Deputy Minister of Education, Wong Kah Woh.
"I raised this matter because I am not only a representative of the people, but someone who cares about human rights, especially about women's education rights.
"I would like to ask why the Ministry of Education (MOE) allowed such a visit from a country that does not have diplomatic relations with Malaysia?.
"More importantly, a country that restricts women from studying in high school and university. Afghanistan is the only country in the world that prohibits women from studying in high school and university.
"The United Nations (UN) has condemned Taliban-led Afghanistan that such actions are the same as gender apartheid. So, I hope an explanation can be given to the people of this country because we are very concerned," he told a press conference in Parliament today.
Fadhlina had earlier confirmed that her ministry hosted officials from the Taliban-led Afghanistan government earlier this month.
According to Fadhlina, the visit is over and the ministry shared their views on education.
Guan Eng also hopes that Fadhlina will explain during the Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow.
“And as a woman, a woman who is a minister, I believe that the education minister has concerns about this matter,” he added. - November 20, 2024
