KUCHING, Nov 19: Sarawak welcomes the Coral Geographer cruise ship on its maiden voyage to the region, offering 125 passengers a vibrant introduction to the State’s rich cultural and natural attractions.

According to a press release from Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), the Australian-operated vessel docked in Kuching on Nov 19, 2024, bringing two lecturers and seven expedition crew members alongside its passengers.

Guests were greeted with a traditional garlanding ceremony and cultural performances at the port, setting the tone for an immersive Sarawakian experience.

Shore excursions included a Kuching City Tour featuring Borneo Cultures Museum, a visit to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to observe orangutans in their natural habitat, birdwatching at Kubah National Park, and a trek through Bako National Park’s iconic landscapes.

Before arriving in Kuching, the Coral Geographer anchored in Miri on Nov 17, where its passengers explored the Miri-Sibuti Reef National Park for diving, visited Lambir Hills National Park, and toured Niah National Park, recently designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.

The cruise ship’s visit is facilitated by GAC and Fortune Shipping and marks the first of two planned stops in Sarawak, with a return scheduled for Dec 26, 2024.

The maiden voyage reflects Sarawak’s growing appeal as a destination celebrated for its CANFF pillars—Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food, and Festivals—leaving visitors with lasting impressions of its unique offerings. — DayakDaily
