Call for calm amid a possible protest over PHEB leadership

A PENANG Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) member has called for calm following reports of a possible protest at the Polo Ground over alleged dissatisfaction with the leadership of PHEB chairman RSN Rayer.
The call to protest under the auspices of "Hindu Unity," is led by a DAP grassroots leader R. Ganeson, who is the Happy Valley DAP branch head.
Ganeson said that he is seeking the removal of Rayer, who has failed to deliver the right type of leadership needed for the PHEB here.
Ganeson said as he called on all those of the Hindu faith to attend the gathering, as the organisers have a police permit to conduct the rally, which is just metres away from the official residence of the Yang di - Pertua Negri.
The PHEB member said that the community needs to rationalise the issue instead of being driven by sentiments and by the political agenda of certain quarters.
The member said that if there are individuals who are upset with Rayer, they should register their protest against him internally instead of going public.
"It only divides the community further. Especially when the issue is about the performance of PHEB which is confined to just the Hindus and in Penang only. It should not involve a public gathering."
The member said such issues can be resolved behind closed doors, adding that the recent move by the Malaysian Anti - Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate PHEB has something to do with previous officials and not the current ones.
MACC is said to be probing the former chief executive officer of the board, Datuk M. Ramachandran and former board chairman Dr P. Ramasamy, who is the former state deputy chief minister. - December 20, 2024.
