HULU LANGAT, Dec 21 — The Kajang Terminal on Jalan Reko here came to life once again with the presence of Klang Valley’s first used one-stop used book centre — Selangor Bookstop.
With over 150,000 books, used and new, the Selangor Bookstop, which started up in May, is an initiative of Bangi Book City.
Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan said the Selangor Bookstop project is in line with Bangi’s function as a city of knowledge, and Kajang’s role as a heritage city.
“I hope this is the start for us to … make this a meeting spot for book lovers.
“This initiative is also in line the Malaysia Madani aspiration towards a new, more progressive civilisation, and this cannot be achieved without encouraging a culture of reading,” he said.
Syahredzan was met after launching the Selangor Bookstop at the Kajang Terminal here today, also attended by National Reporter award recipient Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar.
Meanwhile, Bangi Book City chairman Syed Mohd Zakir Syed Othman Al-Yahya said the Selangor Bookstop will hold a monthly book market to draw visitors.
He said the organisation is aiming to set up 15 more bookstores by next year as only seven are currently in operation.
“After the Covid-19 pandemic, this place has been empty, and after this we hope it is enlivened by book lovers. Here, there are books costing RM1 to the most priceless copies,” he added.
