KUCHING, Dec 25: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been honoured with the titles ‘Newsmaker of the Year’ and ‘Favourite Guest of the Year’ by the popular podcast Keluar Sekejap.

According to a news report by TVS, these accolades celebrate his pivotal contributions to Sarawak’s development and his influence on Malaysia’s political landscape.

In the podcast’s 137th episode, co-host Khairy Jamaluddin commended Abang Johari’s leadership, which has driven substantial changes in Sarawak and Malaysia.

“When you look at how Sarawak has envisioned its future—from acquiring a significant stake in Affin Bank and taking over Bintulu Port from the federal government to aspiring to launch its own airline through MASwings—it’s a testament to his extraordinary vision,” said the former Health Minister.

Khairy also highlighted Abang Johari’s ability to address critical issues, such as the distribution of gas resources between Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), as evidence of his commitment to protecting Sarawak’s rights.

The ‘Favourite Guest of the Year’ recognition was presented by Shahril Hamdan, the podcast’s co-host, who praised Abang Johari’s clear vision for Sarawak’s future and the State’s trajectory towards achieving its goals by 2030.

“Our interview with Abang Johari was deeply impactful. His clarity on Sarawak’s ambitions and his impressive achievements in 2024 stood out. It was truly a privilege to engage with him and discuss Sarawak’s progress,” said Shahril, who previously served as economic director in the Prime Minister’s Office.

An exclusive interview with the Premier was featured in Episode 115, aired on July 22, 2024, to mark Sarawak Day.

In the episode, Abang Johari discussed key issues, including Sarawak’s role within Malaysia, the progress of claims under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the state’s aspirations to become a regional economic leader. — DayakDaily
