7 Things to do in KL & PJ this weekend: 28-29 December 2024

Yes, you read that right. We’re on to the last weekend of the year! While we continue to reflect on the year that has been, we must also send 2024 off with a bang. With that, we bring to you, the last edition of the BURO Weekend Guide for this season. Over at The Godown, savour the last of the festive cheer at the ‘Joy to the World’ Christmas Market. Then, make your way to Basic Wine Store for its collaboration with Singapore’s Lad & Co., bringing you natural wines and—of course—fish and chips! 1. CELEBRATE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITY AT MCRD MALAYSIA’S ‘NYE MARKET & ART EXHIBITION’

Discover the talents and stories of KL’s refugee community this weekend with the Methodist Crisis Relief & Development’ Malaysia’s ‘NYE Market and Art Exhibition’ at REXKL. Over the course of the two days, there will be handicrafts, art pieces, photographs, crafts, and more on display for you to get to know the stories behind the diverse refugee population. You’ll also get to experience some of their traditional foods and flavours to truly immerse yourself in their cultures.

2. CARBO LOAD WITH UNIVERSAL BAKEHOUSE’S ROTI VAN AT AFLOAT COFFEE ROASTERS

When: 28 December 2024 | 8am to 1.30pm

Where: Afloat Coffee Roasters, Bukit Jalil

Get your final taste of Universal Bakehouse’s Christmas specials this weekend with the Roti Van’s pop-up at Afloat Coffee Roasters. Its classic sourdough loaves and scones will be making their usual appearances, alongside other perennial favourites like the sea salt brownies and croissants. However, don’t forget to get yourself a serving or two of its festive exclusives like the apple turnover, minced beef hand pie, and gula Melaka croissant!

3. SAVOUR THE FESTIVE CHEER AT THE ‘JOY TO THE WORLD’ CHRISTMAS MARKET

Where: The Godown Arts Centre

Just because it isn’t 25 December anymore doesn’t mean the Christmas cheer can’t carry on! Head over to The Godown Arts Centre for the ‘Joy to the World’ market, where you’ll get to explore local brands, artisans, musical talents, and more. Whether you’re still on the gifting beat or just want to get in some year-end cheer, this is the place to be this weekend.

4. DISH AND DINE AT BASIC WINE STORE X LAD & CO.’S ‘CHIPS & SIPS’ COLLAB

When: 27 to 29 December 2024 | Times vary by day

Where: Basic Wine Store

Get in your fish and chips fix before the year ends with Basic Wine Store x Lad & Co.’s ‘Chips & Sips’ kitchen takeover event! Coming in from across the causeway, Lad & Co. is known for its crispy and light specialty fish and chips. Alongside its signature dish, there will be other a la carte dishes available on the menu exclusively for this takeover from a soulful bangers and mash to a classic steak pie. Plus, you’ll get to peruse Basic Wine Store’s excellent wine collection to find your preferred pour that will pair perfectly with your bites.

5. TREAT YOUR APPETITE TO LOCUS X GOODDAM’S ‘THE FINAL HURRAH’

Price: RM30 ticket (inclusive of one snack and one drink), dishes to be purchased on an a la carte basis

Earlier this year, community favourite Gooddam shuttered its doors for good. However, they’re not ready to say goodbye just yet. For one final service, chef-owner Daniel Yap and co-owner Miki Lie will be making one last appearance at Locus this Sunday for a special brunch. The menu features a handful of Gooddam’s greatest hits, including its duck agnolotti and tiramisu.

6. CARRY ON THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT IN THE NAME OF FASHION AT THE ‘HOLIDAY INN’ POP-UP MARKET WITH FUME

Gather round for some local streetwear festive fun at the ‘Holiday Inn’ pop-up market.
