We will pay attention to the concerns of all residents concerned, assures PM

THE Prime Minister has asked Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to meet all parties involved over concerns regarding part of the Sungai Nibong pesta site being used to build a depot for the Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government is concerned about those residents affected and would pay serious attention to their plight.

"We understand their concerns and will meet with all those involved ... we know many have sentimental values and we will not ignore anyone

"However, we must also be prepared for change and to make the relevant adjustments. I have asked the CM to look into this and I am sure we can come to a compromise," he said

He was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Penang Mutiara Line LRT Project at the Bandar Sri Pinang LRT station site in Penang, today.

Also present were Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim and Chow.

The 29.5km LRT line is poised to strengthen regional connectivity, enhance mobility, and support Penang's economic growth for decades to come.

"We should ensure that the LRT project is not only modern but culturally enriching and vibrant," said Anwar, adding that the Mutiara Line LRT is a catalyst for economic growth, social prosperity, and national unity.

"The project will set a new standard for infrastructure in Malaysia and underscore its potential to stimulate high-value investments, foster new industries, and bring economic benefits to Penang and the northern corridor as a whole," he said.

Scheduled to begin operations in December 2031, the LRT Mutiara Line project will create thousands of job opportunities, attract substantial investments, and greatly enhance the quality of life for the people of Penang.

The project is also poised to strengthen regional connectivity, enhance mobility, and support Penang's economic growth for decades to come. - January 11, 2025
