A woman in Yunnan, China, has gone viral for an act of bravery that unfolded in the most unexpected circumstances. While enjoying a peaceful skincare routine by the pool, she suddenly found herself in a life-or-death situation that required immediate action.

On February 10, 28-year-old Peng was at a hotel with her children, visiting a friend. As she relaxed by the pool with a sheet mask on, an alarming commotion broke out a young girl had nearly drowned. The child's mother managed to pull her out of the water, but the girl's face had turned blue, a sign of extreme distress.

Despite a crowd gathering, no one stepped forward to help. Seeing the urgency of the situation, Peng immediately contacted emergency responders and sprang into action. Still dressed in her cheongsam and wearing her face mask, she began performing CPR on the child, administering chest compressions until the girl finally expelled the water from her lungs. A wave of relief washed over Peng as the child regained consciousness. Minutes later, an emergency rescue team arrived and took over. Thankfully, the child survived.

In a video shared on Douyin by her friend, Peng explained that she did not overthink her decision she simply acted on instinct, relying on the first aid knowledge she had learned in the past.

"The moment I heard the little girl start crying, I felt my whole body shaking and numb," she recounted.

Following the rescue, the police took the child to the hospital for further medical checks to ensure her well-being.

Reflecting on that night, Peng admitted that she had not originally planned to be at the hotel.

"I wanted to visit the Chinese Academy of Sciences and go swimming at night with my friend and my children, but I changed my mind and went to the hotel instead," she shared. "If we had followed the original plan, we might not have been at the swimming pool at all, and none of this would have happened."

Netizens have since dubbed her the "Facial Mask Heroine" for her quick thinking and courageous act. In response to the overwhelming attention, Peng reminded the public not to place full blame on the parents. Instead, she emphasized the importance of child safety, urging people to stay vigilant when children are near water.
