'School Spirits' Season 2 Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: Will Janet Come Back To School?
Y’all, it’s hard to admit it, but I was wrong about Mr. Anderson (i.e., Mr. Martin) being the one who picked Maddie up at the end of School Spirits episode 5. They clearly deceived us with the outfit, but anyway, in episode 6 it’s made clear that it was Simon and the gang that abducted Maddie (Janet) in the middle of the night for an intervention. In the meanwhile, Maddie is getting more impatient back in the school and decides to take matters into her own hands, especially because the other ghosts are finally finding their own groove. It’s Wally’s class reunion, and Yuri and Charley are meant to go on a date, so the spirits are high. But, at the same time, now the stakes are higher for Maddie because Mr. Anderson’s in the ghost world too. So, without further ado, let’s jump into everything that went down in season 2, episode 6.
Spoiler Alert
What Happens Between Xavier And Nicole? The gang takes Janet to Maddie and Sandra’s cabin (which the duo were meant to be selling) to tell her the stuff they know about Mr. Martin and the rest of the ghosts so that they can convince her to go back to school and save Maddie. They tell her that Dawn’s crossed over, and she’ll be able to as well. But she’s wondering how they know all of this information. Simon tells her that he can see Maddie, but she’s still not convinced, so he has to bring back some concrete evidence that proves to her that Simon is hanging out with “ghost Maddie.” Nicole and Xavier get left behind at the cabin with Janet, while Claire and Simon head off to school. Nicole bombards Xavier with the song he sent her through the secret app that they both don’t know the other is on. Xavier lies, saying he doesn’t know the song, but eventually caves because he’s confused about why Nicole is playing this song. She finally confronts him about being the guy chatting with her. He says he had no idea it was her, but she’s mad because she thinks he did it on purpose. She leaves him in the cabin and walks away to clear her mind.
Janet knows that Xavier and Maddie used to be a couple, and she uses his confusion around Nicole to manipulate him into untying her so she can use one hand. It’s clear this girl is very intelligent, and she knows exactly what to tug at with whom despite having only just met all these people. We’re interrupted by a little dance break, with Wally, Charley, and Rhonda dancing to Bowie while prep for the reunion is in full swing. On the other hand, Simon and Claire find Mr. Martin (in Mr. Anderson’s body) searching for something in one of Claire’s stepdad’s places. Claire calls up the police (Xavier’s dad), claiming that she’s scared to check on the property because she saw a mean-looking trespasser there.
What Does Maddie Discover? After seeing Maddie in school and learning of Mr. Martin having stolen Mr. Anderson’s body, Simon has to wait for Maddie to find something juicy to give Janet. Maddie decides to use the keys to go into everybody’s scars and find proof for Janet. Maddie discovers that the scars are all connected and could possibly be a map; she tells Simon to tell Janet that there’s a room with marigolds in it; this is where Dawn’s scar is. On the other hand, Diego, Nicole’s brother, shows up at the cabin because she didn’t come home at night. Diego thinks there’s something going on between Xavier and Nicole, but he notices something in the cabin and goes in. Janet gets him to stay there so she can find a way to get out, but by nightfall, Simon and Claire return with pizza, busting Janet’s plan.
What Happens At The Reunion? At the Class of 84 reunion, Charley discovers from some conversation that Wally used to be a bully, just like the other jocks of that time. This is not great for their friendship because Charley was basically bullied to death, but I suppose one could say that it’s easier to change young impressionable minds than fully grown adults. Because Wally’s been a teen ghost for so many years, he’s able to admit that he was a bully, and that he wouldn’t have helped Chaley, but he’s different now and he loves Charley. At the same time, though, Charley finds it very difficult to be dancing with Yuri in a room full of people even though they can’t actually see them. Yuri tries to talk to him, but I suppose Charley’s preoccupied with the whole Wally thing. Eventually, they talk it out, and Wally tells Charley that he should go back to Yuri. Instead of getting Yuri to step out of his “bubble” this time around, Charley asks if he can join in, and they dance in the pottery room, in the quiet, by themselves.
What Happens To Sandra?Sandra doesn’t know that Simon and the gang have kidnapped Maddie (obviously), so she goes into a panic again. She searches for her the whole day, ending up at the school. It’s of no help, so she decides to get a drink at the reunion. Mr. Anderson’s ghost, of course, doesn’t want her to drink, but there’s nothing he can do except tell Maddie, who sees her drunk mother stumbling out of school, that there are many sides to people other than their illness. Essentially, he’s trying to tell her not to judge her mother. Back at the cabin, Simon tells Nicole and Xavier to sit out of the conversation. They finally sit in the quiet, and Nicole asks Xavier if he really saw ghosts. This is them being fully honest with each other, and he says yes. Guess these two really will become a thing, if Maddie’s okay with it, of course (and Claire, I guess?).
Does Janet Go Back?At the end of School Spirits episode 6, Simon convinces Janet that things have changed and Maddie is talking to him. She tells him that Dawn may have crossed over, but she herself got out, and she has the chance to live the life she missed out on in 1958 in Maddie’s body, in the modern world, where she can be a scientist. But Simon tells her that she won’t be happy to do it in someone else’s body. He also reminds her of her humanity; he appeals to her “good” side, because he just wants his best friend back. Janet asks for some time out back by herself for a bit before they go back. Simon trusts that she’ll go back to school, but I have a feeling it’ll take a bit more convincing. On the other hand, Maddie discovers that there’s an exit at the end of the path: “The only way out is through.” At the same time, Nicole, who is with Diego trying to buy some alcohol, notices Mr. Anderson’s car and slashes the tires; however, Mr. Anderson still makes it to the cabin and somehow sneaks around to Janet without the others noticing. Now there’s definitely no way that Janet will go back, but the question is, will she side with Mr. Martin or will she figure things out herself? Also, this means Maddie will have to say goodbye to all her ghost friends, Wally included, very soon.
